France!

The best place all over the world that I visited is France. I went with my high-school making an exchange between Spanish and French students. I went to a French house for a week, and sometimes all the students made excursions together, and with teachers too. The most amazing thing is that my French family and I travelled to Paris to see how beautiful it is. We went on the weekend and it was such a perfect trip! We visited the Tour Eiffel, and more awesome buildings and places like museums, rivers, churches...One of the things I like the most was the trip on boat that we made along the river Sena. It wasn’t a crowded ship, and it was inexpensive. I remember the regular beautiful scenery, where I made a lot of fantastic photographs. I also remember that I always wore warm clothes because France is colder than Spain. Food in France is delicious, but I find it more expensive than in Spain. And, genuinely, I know that I will go back someday. I absolutely recommend you to visit France!

Life of Edgar Allan Poe

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S on January 19, 1809. His father abandoned their family and his mother died of tuberculosis before his third birthday. He was separated from his siblings and was taken in by John and Frances Allan, but between he and John there was a huge tension and a lot of arguments. He went to the University of Virginia, but he quickly dropped it out. Then he went to the United States Military academy but he was expelled. His first published book was Tamerlane and Other Poems, in 1827. At the age of 25 he married Virginia Clemm, his little cousin (she was 13 years old) but a few years later she died of tuberculosis, and he alternated brilliant works with bad life. He knew a lot of vocabulary and several languages, and his works have to be read with a lot of attention. He was found delirious and almost died on the streets of Baltimore, and although he was taken to the Washington College Hospital he died on October 7, 1849, at the age of 40. His death’s reason is not clear, but there are many theories that it could be for alcohol, brain congestion, brain tumour, diabetes, apoplexy, hypoglycaemia, cholera, drugs, heart disease, rabies, suicide (related to depression), murder, lead or mercury poisoning, tuberculosis, epilepsy, syphilis, influenza, meningeal inflammation and more agents, but all medical documents and records (including the certificated of the Poe’s death) have been lost. He has a portrait which was made by William Abbot Pratt, only a month before his death. It is said that his final words were: “Lord, help my poor soul”. His funeral was very simple and he was buried at the back of Westminster Hall and Burying Ground without a headstone, but later he was moved to be reburied on November 17, 1875 to a new grave with a monument.

Game of Thrones

I have chosen to write about the actor Christopher Catesby Harington, more known as Kit Harington although later his mother named him Christopher Marlowe. He was born in 26 December, 1986 in Acton, London, England. His most famous role is “Jon Snow” in the Game of Thrones series, played by him since 2011. He also has played important roles in other films, for example in the film Pompeii, Silent Hill, Testament of Youth or How to Train Your Dragon 2. Also, he has appeared in television, for example in 7 Days in Hell; in videogames and in the theatre, for example in War Horse, Posh and The Vote. His mother is Deborah Jane and his father is Richard Harington. He has graduated in Drama and Theatre Studies, and he also wanted to become journalist, cameraman or war correspondent. He has been nominated to win awards, for example the Scream Award, the Saturn Award, the Golden Nymph Award or ING Award, and he has won the Young Hollywood Awards and the Empire Award.

COLDPLAY

There is an icon that I am very interested in.  It is “Coldplay”. They’re from London, UK, and they sing very well. Their genre is named “Pop Rock” or “post-Britpop”. They started in 1996, with Chris Martin as a vocalist and with Jonny Buckland as the lead guitarist. Before, they were named with several names like Pectoralz or Starfish, but they renamed “Coldplay” in 1998, and were getting better; they could have a drummer, a multi-instrumentalist, backing vocalist... Their manager, Phil Harvey is considered like other member of the band. Currently, their members are: Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion”. They have a lot of beautiful songs, like “Every teardrops a waterfall”, “We never change”, “Yellow”, “Violet hill”, “Viva la Vida”... and they have got songs with famous artists too, like the song of “Princess of China” which was sung by Coldplay with Rihanna. I think the most famous song is “Paradise” which is one of my favourites. They have published six CDs: “Parachutes, 1999-2001” which was a really successful  work, “A Rush of Blood to the Head 2001-2004”, “X&Y 2004-2006”, “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends 2006-2009”, “Mylo Xyloto 2009-2013”, and the latest “Ghost Stories and A Head Full of Dreams 2013-currently” They are doing a lot of concerts and tours around a lot of countries, and each time more and more countries. They have done some charity projects too, like “A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief”, “Hope for Haiti Now”, “The Secret Policeman’s ball” or “Teenage Cancer Trust”.
They have won a lot of awards like the NME’s Album of the Year, five MTV Video Music Awards, the 51st Grammy Awards, and a lot of Grammy’s nominations (25). They were the UK’s best-selling rock album of 2011, and won the Best British Group three times.

Transport in my town

There are several kinds of transport in my town. I am going to explain someones:

-Buses:
You cannot depend on buses because they always go late. But the advantage is that there are a lot of buses, and if you miss the bus, you will be able to catch the next.
But... watch out! You could catch the wrong bus, so you always have to ask where these buses are going, because there are buses from different places, and they go to different destinations.
I think buses in my town are as good as trains and both are very cheap. Either you buy the ticket with cash on the bus, or you buy a card. Paying on the bus is more expensive than using the card. When you pay on the bus, you must have a ticket. The buses start at 8:00 a.m. and finish at 10:00 p.m.

-Trains:
There are two train stations in my city, and plenty of destinations. I always use trains to go to the beach with my friends, to visit my boyfriend who lives in Barcelona, to travel or to go to my house. In those cases, trains are better than buses, because it is cheaper and you will arrive earlier than if you go on bus. You can pay on the train, but it is more expensive than if you buy the ticket at the train station.

-Taxis:
There are a few taxis in my town because we prefer to catch the bus, and only we use taxis in difficult situations. They are expensive, but they are faster than buses and more comfortable. The best advantage of taxis is that taxis are always available, and buses have timetables.
You can ring taxis and they will arrive where you are.

-Bikes:
There aren't any hire bikes, but there are cycle lanes and they are free. The disadvantage is when the weather is bad, but getting around by bike is good for health and for the environment.

Smartphones - A great invention?

Nowadays, everyone is in contact with technology and it has developed the Smartphones. For this reason, the major part of our population spends a lot of time chatting, calling, taking photos or playing games in their Smartphones. But is our society really aware of the advantages and disadvantages that the fact of using a Smartphone could have and produce?

On the one hand, if we use it properly we will be receiving a huge help in many aspects of our lifestyle. For example, we can be connected with whatever person we want, search information at the moment that we need it or make videos and take photos at the moment that we want. Furthermore, if we are lost, in danger or in an emergency, if we use the Smartphone correctly, it could safe our life, for example in a fight, in a fire, in a car crash...

But on the other hand, we are getting more and more obsessed and being dependent persons on our Smartphones and this is a big mistake because we are losing important treatments like real social relations or talks face-to-face. Also it could be unhealthy to waste much time using Smartphones. Moreover, if we use it badly, it can be a very big problem to our atmosphere, friends, strangers or even yourself.

In conclusion, from my viewpoint Smartphones are a great invention if people don’t overstep the limits wasting their time, being in danger or hurting people with it.
